Alice in Wonderland Web Icons

With the brand new community working perfectly, the new Free icon stocks have arrived! This week we’re presenting a bitmap and a vector stock featuring Alice in Wonderland. Alice in Wonderland is a novel that tells the story of Alice, a girl that, by following a white rabbit, falls into a fantasy world full of strange creatures and situations. This movie has had several film adaptations, including a Disney animated movie that inspired these lumina icons. You can find Alice, the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter and the Queen and King of hearths, in bright contrasted colors characteristic of the Lumina Style.

BrushesDownload: Graphic Resources

I ran into this site and I wanted to share it with you It’s called BrushesDownload and it has a really wide variety of resources, from Photoshop Tutorials to CSS Guides. It has two versions, an English site and a Spanish site.

Brushes are one of the main resources this page offers. It has basic tutorials for those who aren’t sure on how to install them, to high quality brushes for complex designs. It’s definitely worth take a look!

Interface: Is less more?

With the recent arrival to the market of Google Chrome a new concept when it comes to web browser design arrived. Minimalism is one of the principal characteristics proposed by this new browser, trying to give more space to the web content.

I definitely agree that simplicity is one of the key elements to a good design ,although it doesn’t mean that all simple designs are good or that not so simple designs aren’t, it just means that it’s harder to go wrong if you stick to a good design. However several pages aren’t correctly shown in Chrome, which totally ruins the concept of having a minimalistic interface in order to give importance to the wepage you’re visiting.

Have you tried Chrome? What to do you think about it’s interface design and concept? Is it really that different from others?

Firebug: A plug-in for web development

A good website design requires a lot of work. A well designed code is often the key to a website, not only to achieve an outstanding user interface but also to make your site load faster, have a good SEO practice and make it robust. Firebug is a plug-in for Firefox that helps you do that. You can download it and install it. A little bug will appear on the right side of the status bar on Firefox and when you double click it you can see the HTML code, Javascript and CSS of the website you’re in. You can manipulate it, select it, and the changes and selections will appear on the website you’re browsing.

Additionally, you can check how much each element of your webpage takes to load. This will help you detect which elements are slowing it down and you’ll know what needs to be changed.

There are several uses for this tool, they will certainly help you improve your design!

The new releases for free stock icons in our community have been paused for a while. If you were wandering what happened, I invite you to log into your community account (or create one if you haven’t visited it yet) and discover the new portal implemented. We’re hoping the interaction between all of us increases using this tool and once everything is working fine, the new sets will keep coming!

You can swap icons with other users, or exchanging your points, so, while the new sets are released go and get as much points as you can to be the first one to get them

Slow Down your mouse speed with Slowmousion

When designing or creating illustrations we often find that the mouse movements are very fast. Although Windows has an option for changing the speed, Slowmousion allows us to do it by just pressing a key, which comes very handy in order to simplify the process. This tool still needs some improvement, like letting us choose the speed, o selecting a different key to the offered ones to activate it.

A really fun set featuring a Circus can be downloaded at Iconshock’s Free download Website. This set of icons is full of amusing elements, as a trained elephant, a monkey on a bicycle and a clown. One of the nicest things this set has is a great contrast, with very vivid colors and bright. We can find all those icons in the usual sizes (from 16×16px to 256×256px) and in .ICO, .ICNS and .PNG file formats for you to use in Windows and Mac!

Motion Blur Photos

I ran into this post from Smashing Magazine where a great collection of Blur Photos is shown. Motion Blur is used to show movement and speed in photos. When not used we often see pictures static, but there’s a great difference between the perception you might get when this technique is used. Here you can see the complete gallery
